All high speed interfaces, both DDR memory and high speed serial links, are on a Moore’s Law driven treadmill of ever higher data rate. For example, DDR memory went from about 1 Gbps in DDR3 to over 2 Gbps in DDR4. USB is evolving from less than 0.5 Gbps in version 2 to 5 Gbps in version 3.
