04 a 08/11/2013 – Understanding 802.15.4, a.k.a. ZigBee / MiWi

This course introduces students to wireless communications methods based on the IEEE 802.15.4 protocol, which is the basis on which ZigBee networking is built. The specifics of ZigBee networking will be discussed in a manner as to differentiate ZigBee and another 802.15.4-based protocol called MiWi.

This course will instruct students as to how to collect and analyze 802.15.4 and MiWi network traffic. Network packet capture and decoding will be enabled during the course using Microchip’s ZENA Wireless Adapter and the Microchip Wireless Development Studio.

The track features lecturer Fred Eady, the owner of EDTP Electronics. Since establishing his company in 1988, Fred has written thousands of magazine articles for major electronics magazines, including Radio Electronics, Electronics Now, Nuts and Volts, Servo, MicroComputer Journal, and Circuit Cellar. He has also taught Ethernet and WiFi classes at Microchip’s annual Masters Conference.

The amount of network traffic continues to rise at dramatic rates to keep up with demand for IP-based voice/video/data services and applications. It is estimated that annual global IP traffic will surpass the zettabyte threshold (1.4 zettabytes) by the end of 2017.* This increase in network traffic requires processors that can securely and efficiently provide for control and data path in the same framework. Multicore SoCs with offload acceleration help to meet the need of network-hungry applications while delivering performance per watt criteria needed in embedded applications. 05/11/2013 – True Differencial S_Parameter Measurements

Differential structures such as backplanes and cables are the primary means for transmitting high speed serial data signals. Signal integrity of these systems is determined by the characteristics of the media such as insertion loss, crosstalk, and differential to common mode conversion. Complete measurement of the mixed mode S-Parameters is often performed by transforming single-ended S-Parameters and assuming that the system is linear. In some cases, linearity cannot be assumed such as where active components are used.

This webinar will describe how to measure true differential S-Parameters which can be measured even in the presence of non-linear elements.
